Using the Multi-tier Selector

When a field has values organized in multiple tiers (that is, parent and child tiers), you can search for an item using the Multi Tier Selector button .

  1. Select .
  2. This button can look slightly different, depending on the entity. For example, on the Call Details window, when specifying Type, the button looks like this:

  3. A pop-up table is displayed, with the first tier of items displayed in the left hand column. Those items with sub-categories have an arrow to their right. Either select the item you want, or the category to display further subcategories. You can also use the and buttons to scroll through the lists.
  4. Double-click on a value from any column to insert it in the field.

Further Options

Depending on the context, the options in the multi-tier popup may also include functions such as search and value.

Search and Quick Search are available for an entity reference field (such as a User or Configuration Item field). Select to open a corresponding Search or Quick Search window to look up an entity.

The option (Value) allows you to specify a value in the field. For a profile field (such as a type list), selecting (Value) presents the defined options for the list.

For an entity reference field (such as a User or Configuration Item field) the field selector behaves like a standard Q/D button, and initially displays as a Q/D button.

Depending on the field type and the context in which you are working, several advanced options may appear in the field selector allowing you to set up rules for populating a field, perform property transformations, and profile maps.

Once you select an item in the field, the icon before the button updates to indicate the type of value you selected:

a property transform, resolution rule, or profile map is defined to populate the field
